New York Times will add online fees in '11, end print edition eventually

Several U.S. newspapers are already charging readers to access some or all of their online content, and The New York Times plans to implement a "metered paywall" in early 2011, reports Emma Heald of editorsweblog.org. Readers will get access to a specific number of free articles per month, then have to pay for additional content.

These details were announced by Times Publisher Arthur Sulzberger on Wednesday at an international summit in London. Sulzberger also confirmed that the newspaper will end its print edition at some point in the future. To read an interesting commentary from Business Insider on that announcement, click here.
