Here are the five U.S. newspaper job openings we decided to highlight this week:
1. The Knoxville News Sentinel in Tennessee seeks an editor. The job listing states, "The Knoxville News Sentinel is looking for a continuous news editor for business and metro. The position is responsible for directing a staff of 25 writers and editors covering business and local news for the print and electronic products of East Tennessee's largest news organization. A successful candidate will have a passion for breaking news and watchdog reporting, absolute integrity and devotion to the tenets of journalism, and at least five years experience managing in a multimedia newsroom."
2. The Sandusky Register in Ohio seeks a sports editor. The job listing states, "Who do we want? We're looking for someone with at least three years (preferably five years) solid experience leading a sports desk who likes the idea of covering 18 area high school sports programs, and a lot of everything else, from little league to bowling. And you'll need to bring that coverage to readers both in print and online."
3. The Dallas Morning News seeks an originating editor. The job listing states, "The Dallas Morning News needs a strong and versatile originating editor to work with a group of experienced business reporters covering local companies and the economy for the Business section, the front page and the Web. The assistant business editor position requires working closely with other business editors, visual departments, production desks, other originating news departments and the Web staff. Applicants should have business journalism experience with a good understanding of the economy, corporate finance and financial markets."
4. The Journal Record in Oklahoma seeks a business writer. The job listing states, "If you can find the people stories behind the balance sheets we'd like to talk to you. The Journal Record, a daily (M-F), statewide business paper has an opening for a business writer. If your idea of a business story is a re-written press release, please don't apply. If you know how to get out from behind your desk with a notebook in your hand and find the great stories no one else is telling, please send your resume and clips ASAP. The right candidate will also be experienced in (or open to learning) some multimedia reporting skills."
5. The Wisconsin State Journal seeks a photojournalist. The job listing states, "Our photographers are well-rounded journalists who are able to think on their feet, understand the stories they shoot and find the photos that help tell those stories. You’ll be expected to bring your own ideas for stories, long-term projects and online content. We’re looking for a team player with a can-do attitude to be part of our talented staff. At least four years daily newspaper experience or equivalent in photojournalism experience is required."
